What an invoice has to say

An invoice has one job: to make a payment obligation unambiguous. That means who issued it and who owes, a number that is unique to the issuer, the date it was issued, what was actually supplied, the amount, any tax, and the total to pay. Anything else is presentation.

What is a credit note, and when do you issue one?

A credit note cancels or reduces an invoice you have already issued — a return, an overcharge, a cancelled order. You do not delete the original. You issue a second document that refers to it, so the trail still adds up. This tool produces credit notes, quotes and receipts from the same form.

How should tax be rounded on an invoice?

Rounding is where two honest invoices disagree by a rupee. It depends on two choices, and this tool lets you set both rather than guessing for you:

ChoiceOptionsWhy it matters
Where you roundPer line, or on the totalRounding every line then adding up can differ from adding up then rounding once. On a long invoice the gap grows.
Which wayHalf up, half even, up, downHalf-even spreads the bias over many invoices; half-up is what most people expect to see.
Discount timingBefore or after taxA discount applied before tax reduces the tax; applied after, it does not. They are different documents.

What does reverse charge mean?

On a reverse-charge supply the buyer accounts for the tax instead of the seller, so the invoice shows no tax collected and says why. It is common on cross-border services. Tick it and the document states it; the tool does not decide whether it applies to you.

This tool formats a document and does the arithmetic you ask for. It does not know your jurisdiction’s rules, it is not tax advice, and it files nothing with any authority.

Questions people ask

Is this invoice generator free, with no sign-up?
Yes. No account, no email address, no watermark and no limit on how many invoices you make. It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.
Can one invoice have different tax rates on different lines?
Yes, and this is where most free invoice generators fall down. Each line carries its own rate, so consulting at one rate and travel at zero can sit on the same document, and the totals show a separate band for each rate.
Does it handle rounding correctly?
You choose the rounding mode and whether tax is rounded on each line or once per rate, and the document says which was used. The two can differ by a unit or two on the same invoice, which is the classic reason an invoice gets rejected.
Which currencies and languages are supported?
Thirty currencies, including ones with no minor unit like the yen and three-decimal ones like the Kuwaiti dinar, and eight document languages. The interface language and the document language are separate choices.
Can I make a credit note or a quote?
Yes. The same tool produces invoices, credit notes, quotes, proforma invoices, receipts and purchase orders.
